More information : [Name at SD 44250895] New Park Ormskirk Golk Course [T.I.] (1) "At LATHOM is the New Park [a deep park.] ...." (2) In the valley towards LATHOM is a fine track of well wooded country, belonging to the STANLEY family, called NEW PARK. (3) Centred SD 44300880 The boundary of the park can be fairly accurately determined, the containing wall being traceable throughout most of its length. There is little doubt that this wall represents the boundary as the normal field divisions in this region are invariably hedges. The wall is 0.6m thick at base, tapering slightly towards the top, with a maximum height of 1.6m. The coping, where it exists, consists of stones set on edge. There are some dressed stones in the wall and in the SE a considerable quantity of early hand made brick. This suggests that some of the material from the wall has come from a demolished building, probably that which once stood within the park (See SD 40 NW 3). This building was pulled down in the early 18th cent, which is possibly the date of empanking. (4)
