Summary : Ninteenth and twentieth century barracks associated with the Chattenden Magazines (Monument 1481790). Identified on OS maps of 1909 as Workmen's Quarters, they originally housed the civilian workforce associated with the magazine site. they were later designated as Royal Marine Police married quarters. These barracks were demolished in 1965. The barracks, known as the South Terrace, have been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. |
