More information : Halton Hall [GT] 91) Originally built 1630 and was added to in 1830 and 1899. The original building, and that which was added in 1830 have been completely demolished, the 1899 addition has now been made into two semi detached houses. (2) The manor-house, HALTON HALL, was built by one of the last of the CARUS family, on the site of the old manorial residence of the DACRES (The DACRES held the manor from the 13th cent until 1583, and the CARUS family from 1583 to 1718). (3) Close to the church and on the banks of the river stands HALTON HALL, the old home of the lords of the Manor of Halton. (4) The manor-house of the DACRE family was burnt down in 1322 by the devastating Scots, and it is uncertain whether or not it was ever restored. The CARUS family seem to have obtained the old rectory-house and turned it into this dwelling place (it was in their possession in 1650). (5) The two semi-detached houses mentioned in Auth.2 and situated at SD 49866467 represent the sole remains of the modern HALTON HALL. The more easterly of these houses has an inscription over the east door - "1899" The date of the original building given in Auth.2 as 1630 could not be confirmed either from literature or local enquiry.
