Summary : Earthwork remains of a Medieval homestead moat 18 metres wide and 2 metres deep enclosing an island 80 by 88 metres across. The moat is still waterfilled but the fishponds had dried up by the time of recording in 1953. The fishponds have since been destroyed. The moat is the ite of a 15th century hall wich was demolished in 1790 leaving two towers standing. The bases of these towers are the only visible remains of the house and can be seen on the edge of the island. The house was replaced by a latter 18th century building outside oof the moat, it is also called Heron Hall and is still standing. |
