More information : SW 63743890 (1) Higher Penponds Farm Cottage, a 17t/18th century cottage of coursed rubble with a thatched roof, the childhood home of Richard Trevithick (1771-1833) the steam engine pioneer. He designed the first successful trial locomotive to run on rails at the Darby foundry, Coal-brookdale in 1802. (1-4) Also known as Higher Penponds Farm Cottage. Farmhouse, now house. C18 altered. 18th century cottage, altered L-shaped plan comprising of main range with attached stables and short rear wing. The rear has a modern lean to addition in the angle with the iwng. It is now National Trust property. (6)
