Summary : The remains of a roughly oval Iron Age "round" consisting of a bank and ditch on the north and west and a single outward facing scarp on the east and south, the latter probably the denuded remains of a bank, enclosing a total area of about 60 x 70 metres. A large mound of earth to the south of the round and several large depressions within the interior may be the result of mining operations. |
More information : SW 7183 4682, 7190 4675. Two extant 'rounds'. (1) "Traces of part of an elliptical work" are recorded by Thomas (2) to the W. of Coosewartha farm. (2) At SW 71924679 on a South facing slope are the remains of a roughly oval IA "round" consisting of a bank and ditch on the North and West and a single outward facing scarp on the East and South, the latter probably the denuded remains of a bank, enclosing a total area of about 60 x 70m. A large mound of earth to the South of the round and several large depressions within the interior may be the result of mining operations. Surveyed 1:2500. Traces of an opposing curvilinear scarp slightly to the west of the extant feature are of doubtful antiquity but may be that identified by Warner as a second round. (3)
