Blue Hills Tin Mine

Summary : A tin mine and associated dressing floor. The mine was an amalgation of a number of mines which were operational until 1780. The mine re-opened in 1810 and closed in 1897. At its closure the mine employed 100 men. Surviving features assoaciated with the mine include an engine house constructed in 1813, and a small set of water-powered Cornish stamps. Six of the original twelve survive, together with the cam barrel and waterwheel axle.

Bluehills Mine was active during the 18th century, in association
with the Goonlaze mines, (see SW 75 SW 27) but was abandoned due to flooding in 1784.

Bluehills, an amalgam of several mines, was working again in
1813 with a 58-inch cylinder pumping engine installed, but was
finally closed in 1896.

The engine house is now a prominent feature in the mine-scarred
valley (Engine House named at SW 72835172 on OS 6" 1888). (2-4)

There is a small set of water-powered Cornish stamps at SW72885151. Six of the original twelve survive, with a cam barrel and the waterwheel axle. (5)
