Summary : Early 16th century house, possibly incorporating an earlier building. The former home of the Arundell family, possibly built on the site of a Celtic monastery, (SW 86 NE 55). Later additions can be dated to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The building consists of two parallel ranges with the inner range the earlier. There is a courtyard to the centre, with a rear range built circa 1700. The back of the building is said to have been refaced by Sir Christopher Wren. The house has served as a Carmelite convent since 1794. Near the convent is an Early Medieval cross, which was moved here from Roseworthy: see records 429217 and 425862. |

This Tudor House is in good condition and retains most of its original features according to Henderson who was able to make or obtain a plan of the house (MSS. Truro Museum). Since the Nunnery is a closed order it is impossible to view any part except the south-east front. See G.P.
