| Summary : A worked stone, apparently a latin cross-head with one arm missing, was found in the hedge 0.9m North West of Callywith Cross (SX 06 NE 14) during construction of the Bodmin bypass. Nearby was found a rectangular piece of worked granite, possibly a cross-shaft. The stones were removed to store and then set up, the head on the shaft, next to the re-sited Callywith Cross on the North East side of the hedge, on completion of the road works. The cross head is similar in size and shape to the St Vincent Mine Cross (SX 27 NW 2). |
More information : (SX 08566794) A worked stone, apparently a latin
cross-head with one arm missing, was found in the hedge 0.9m
NW of Callywith Cross (SX 06 NE 14) during construction of the
Bodmin bypass. Nearby was found a rectangular piece of worked
granite, possibly a cross-shaft.
The stones were removed to store and will be set up, the head
on the shaft, next to the re-sited Callywith Cross on the NE
side of the hedge, on completion of the road works. The cross
head is similar in size and shape to the St Vincent Mine Cross
