Monument Number 440710

Hob Uid: 440710
Location :
Devon
West Devon
Peter Tavy
Grid Ref : SX5400082900
Summary : Two Bronze Age cairns lie within a field system on the south-west flank of Ger Tor.
More information : (SX 53938287) Cairn (NR) 'A', (SX 54088295) Cairn (NR) 'B'. (1)

Two cairns discovered during field investigation. (2)

A: A turf-covered cairn measuring 8.3m northeast/southwest and
6.1m northwest/southeast and 0.6m high. It incorporates some large
stones, eg one 1.0m by 0.7m by 0.3m, is one side but none that might
represent a cist. For some 60.0m around the cairn the ground has been
cleared of stone, so it could be a clearance heap, but these are not
common on Dartmoor, so the possibility is unlikely.

B: A turf-covered cairn measuring 4.2m by 4.9m and 0.5m high, with a
slight hollow in the top.

Surveyed at 1:10 000 on MSD. (3)

See ground photographs.

SX 53938288 and SX 54098296. These features are as described by Authority 3. (4)

Depicted by Butler. (5)

No change. (6)
