Summary : The northernmost of two cists (see SX 66 NW 45) situated on rising ground above Deadmans Bottom, Langcombe. Scheduled.
More information : (SX 60786689) Cist (NR) (1)

The northernmost of two cists at Deadman's Bottom, Langcombe,
and some 31 feet 6 inches from the other (SX 66 NW 45). Much
deformed. Original length, inside cist, about 3 feet; width 10
inches at southern end, 1 foot 10 inches at northern end; depth
to floor 2 feet 6 inches. No result from excavation. The two cists
together with the two nearby hut circles (SX 66 NW 40) would
appear to be connected. (2)

The cist is as described by Worth, and planned on illustration
card. It is partly concealed by the coverstone. There is no cairn.

Surveyed at 1:10000 on PFD. (3)

Cist depicted and described by Butler. (5)

Cist depicted by Robertson. (6)

The remains of a cist lie on the northern slopes of Deadmans Bottom at SX 6078 6689. The feature consists of a stone lined box, c.1m long and c. 0.4m wide, with a coverstone which has now slid to the north. The cist has collapsed in on itself. There is a turf covered stone spread to the south but little real evidence of an associated cairn. (7)
