(SX 63897585) Cist (NR). (2) Remains of a cist, consisting of one end stone and one side stone, within a slight mound and a 24 ft 6 in diameter retaining circle. (3) On a very slight south-west slope at 375m. O.D. is the remains of a retaining circle with cist. The circle has an internal diameter of 7.5m. with spaced stones set on edge. Of the nine shown in the plan of 1950 only the seven which form the eastern segment of the perimeter can be identified at present. The two stones on the west and the cairn material mentioned by Worth could not be seen but maybe concealed by the long grass which covers the site. The cist, 1.5m. long by 0.9m. wide and 0.65m. deep is represented by a single side stone and an end stone. Surveyed at 1:10 000 on M.S.D. and at 1:2500 for A.O.Records. At SX 63897586 on a slight SW moorland pasture slope are two stones of a cist is a low cairn largely enclosed bt a kerb circle. The NW-SE orientated cist represented by the E side stone and S end stone measures 1.5m long by 0.9m wide with a amximum depth of 0.65m. The outer limits of the now amorphous cairn with a maximum height of 0.2m were presumably marked by the 7.5m diameter kerb circle of which all nine stones of the 1950 survey (auth 1) still exist (7). |
