Location :

Summary : A round barrow and stone row were allegedly found beside the road at Sherril Down. No trace of these features can now be found.
More information : A double stone row, found in 1894 "beside a road" on Sherril Down, Sherberton Common, was destroyed between 1895 and 1897. Its length was about 225 feet, oriented N4oW and was about 1125 feet above seal level. At its northern end were traces of a barrow. (The site is located at long 3o 50' 48", lat 50o 32' 7" - SX 691723, but long 3o 50' 48", lat 50l 32' 37" - SX 691732 - would agree more with the siting description). (1)

Worth gives an identical account of the stone row but the published latitude 50o 32' 57". This is used by Grinsell to place the site at approximately SX 691739 in his list of cairns. (2-3)

No trace of the double row, the cist, or the circle could be found. Worth's description indicates a position not far from the road between SX 69027327 and SX 69657309. (4)
