More information : (SX 77474328) Keynedon, Remains of Mansion (NAT) (NR) (1) Keynedon, or Kennedon Farm, one mile south of Sherford, is an Elizabethan house with the remains of an older (Early Tudor?) house behind. It was originally an early 15th c. quadrangular house with three gateways, a tower of one standing until about a century ago. The thickness of the walls of the present porch suggest they are the remains of an original tower. The walls of a barn may represent the chapel. (2-6) The farmhouse, at SX 77474328, contains many modern windows, but there are still a number of Tudor type and the moulded doorways are retained. Both the farmhouse and the earlier range to the west at SX 77464328, are unusually good local examples. For ground photographs see AO/61/254/1 of farmhouse. At SX 77484329 adjoining the NE corner of the farmhouse, is the structure which is suggested in 2 as possibly the chapel and it incorporated blocked tudor windows. No confirmation of an ecclesiastical use was obtained. (7) Keynedon Farm House. Grade II*. Formerly the residence of the Hals family who built the present house in the C15. It has been much altered and refashioned and is now mainly Tudor and later. Irregular plan and elevation. Outbuilding at Keynedon to west of house. Grade II. A long range behind the house in rubble and rough ashlar with thatch and corrugated iron roofing. Open fireplace C16. Remains of Gatehouse at Keynedon. C15. Only the clustered responds of the former arched entrance remain. The rest was demolished about a century ago. (For full description see list). (8)

Kennedon Barton istermed a house of remarkable antiquity and in the manuscripts is described in considerable detail, particulary the heraldic window glass (which then survived in quantity) with sketches. (10)
The farmhouse known as Keynedon Barton is as described and generally well preserved. The house was inaccessible due to locked gates at the time of investigation. Surveyed at 1/2500. (11)
