Owlacombe Burrow

Summary : Boundary stone on site of alleged barrow, for which no evidence exists.
More information : To the west of Owlacombe and N.E. of Haytor is the
tumulus known as Owlacombe Burrow. (a)
R. Hansford Worth remarks that this is a barrow and was shown
as such on the 1st edition of the O.S.6" (b).

The O.S. 6" 1906 shows a Boundary Stone called "Owlacombe
Burrow" at SX 7764 7763 and the Tithe Map shows an outline
representation of a spread of stones some 12.0m wide called
'Hollowcombe Barrow' extending along the parish boundary for
about 30.0m. immediately to the east of the Boundary Stone. (1)

There is no trace of a cairn or a barrow in this area. The
stones portrayed on the Tithe Map can be identified with a
large outcrop of rock. (2)

Natural feature. No evidence of a barrow or that one ever existed here. For boundary stone see SX 77 NE 76. (3)
