Summary : A documentary source of the early 19th century refers to a number of 'bastle buildings' scattered through Rothbury Forest. No trace of any such structure survives today. The last may have been Bog Hall, demolished some time before 1903.
More information : Bastle at Bog Hall (not located). (1) In a description of Rothbury Forest a century ago (c.1803), the so-called Forest was stated to be dotted over with "Bastle buildings". Not one of these strong houses remains at the present day. The last was probably Bog Hall, which was demolished some years ago. (2) All remembrance of the name Bog Hall appears to have vanished. Repeated enquiries in the district around Rothbury and in the town itself revealed no knowledge of the name nor of the bastle. (3) Listed by Cathcart King and by Dodds. (4,5) 'Bog House' located at NZ0730597789 on the 1st Epoch map (1843-93) 1:10560 scale. Not present on modern OS map. (6)
