Summary : Folly, built in the form of a round stone tower, probably in the 1720s. It has a round-headed doorway, very small round windows lighting the stair, four round-headed windows near the top and a castellated parapet. Built for Archdeacon Sharpe as an observatory. |
More information : (NU 05810094) Sharpe's Folly (NAT) (1) Grade II* Sharp's Folly Mid C.18. Archdeacon Thomas Sharp built this partly to relieve unemployment among masons and partly for use as an observatory and to give a view of the sea. A round tower about 30ft high, rather plain, but good masonry. Should be preserved as a memorial of a famous churchman who left his mark on the county.
