Wingham Court, a large farmhouse, in good condition, was formerly
the Hall of the paramount manor of Wingham held of the Archbishops
of Canterbury.
Archbishop John Peckham resided here in 1282 when he founded Wingham
College (TR 25 NW 15).
The present building is a hall house; the screens were removed and
an upper storey was inserted in the 18th c. A Georgian facade was
added to the N side, and the W end was rebuilt and additions were
made on the S side in the mid 17th c. The foundations and cellars
are of flint rubble walling and contain a circular flint-lined well.
