Summary : Site of a Neolithic cairn excavated and destroyed in 1928. Fragments of a cinerary urn were recovered.
More information : 0548 Street House, Loftus.
The site of a destroyed mound which had stood on a hedgeline and was removed when a number of fields were amalgamated. From the site, the Street House neolithic cairn is prominently placed on the skyline. The present farmer remembers the excavation of the mounds about 50 years ago, and says that 'incense vessels' were found then. Fragments of a collared urn, a pygmy cup and a single urn sherd, marked 'Street House' from the local museum collection must relate to this mound. The museum accession states that they were donated by Hornsby in 1928, following excavations at Street House. (1)
