Summary : A World War II battery was built at Haven Mouth in 1940. It consisted of two 12-pounders on South pier as an anti-torpedo defence. This lasted until 1941 when one of the guns was resited on the Yarmouth side of the Yare to give geater all-round defence.Underground shelters were built behind the cafe by the North Pier and a 40mm Bofors gun was emplaced on the pier. The greatest damage the battery received was when a rogue British torpedo destroyed the magazine and most of the battery buildings on the South Pier.
