Summary : Numbers 1-7 Tannery Square, formerly known as Numbers 9-11 Tannery Square and Numbers 102-104 Bywater Buildings, are a terrace of back-to-back cottages built between 1852 and 1856, which are now in use as flats. The terrace was built by Matthew Bywater of coursed gritstone with herringbone tooling and a slate roof. The land was bought from Sir Thomas Beckett in 1852. The terrace is of two storeys with nine first floor windows. In 1872, it was sold to Emma Jane Harden of Headingley. The former cottages were altered in 1975 and 1995 and converted to flats, with many of the original openings substantially altered and changed. |
