Summary : 14th century castle, altered to quadrangular castle in the mid 15th century, altered in the 18th century to form a country house by John Carr.

Built 14th century, altered late 15th century and much altered circa 1800. Recently drastically reduced in size and most Md features destroyed. Late Georgian S range incorporates original 15/16th century archway to courtyard; some early 16th century windows incorporated in keep. (2)

As described and in excellent condition. See photograph. (3)

Hornby Castle grade 1. (4)

Courtyard castle apparently of the late 15th century and of Northern quadrangular form with four angle towers. The whole greatly modernised. (5)

A survey by EDAS in 2007 discovered that the quadrangular form was work of the mid-15th century. (6)
