Summary : Deer park emparked in 1474, later landscaped and contains mid 1750s pleasure grounds - Plumpton Rocks.
More information : A deer park at Plumpton (Plompton) between Spofforth
and Knaresborough was enclosed in the thirteenth year of Edward
IV (1474). It was noted by Leland in his itinerary (1535-43).
(Plompton Park centred at SE 358538 on OS 6" 1970). (1+2)

Recent aerial photography (2001) shows evidence for probable Medieval earthwork remains centered at SE 35765 53553. Evidence suggests a possible hollow way, building platform (c. 24m by 10m) and a number of linear features. (3)
