Summary : The Augustinian friars were in York by 1272, and purchased 7 houses where they built their friary. Grants of additional land were made in 1289 and between 1314-82. The house was renowned for its library of books on philosophy, theology, and other subjects, including music. The friary surrendered in 1538. Inhumations thought to belong to the friary were found in the Lendal in 1975. |
