St.Oswald's Priory, a house of Augustinian Canons, was founded c.1114 and dissolved 1540. There was formerly a settlement of hermits on the site.
The ruins, which were to the SE of the present house, were removed in the early 18th c. apart from an outbuilding which was converted into cow stalls and a slaughter house. The priory probably lay between this building and Wragby Church.
[Brockwell contends that the church - SE 41 NE 6 - represents the early site of the Priory]. (2-5)
There are no visible remains at the published position.
The cow-stalls and slaughter house at SE 40671729 is a restored 16th/17th century building and may survive from the extra claustral buildings of the priory. In another restored 16th/17th century barn at SE 40601723 are numerous carved stones, columns, gargoyles and a font. All other outbuildings are of mid-18th c. construction. There are no surface indications of the priory between these older buildings and Wragby Church. (6)
