Skewkirk Hall

Summary : A 16th century hall, rebuilt during the 18th century on site of an Augustinian cell of Nostell Priory. That was founded during the early 12th century, the Chapel of All Saints being granted to Nostell Priory to found the cell, and extant until 1539.

Skewkirk Hall was rebuilt in the 16th.century using material from a monastic cell, for canons of Nostell Priory, which had been founded on the site temp. Henry I. (2-3)

The present Hall is an entirely 18th c. brick built residence, and the only visible evidence of re-used material is a small, single light, arched window rebuilt into the south wall of adjacent buidings.See G.Ps. AO/63/116/3 & 4 for south-east and western aspects of the Hall respectively. (4)
