Summary : Medieval moat, visible as an earthwork, water-filled, no visible remains of any buildings on the central platform, three small-scale excavations have been carried out on the site, but little was found.Part of the moat circuit and associated banks are visible as earthworks on air photographs.
More information : [SE 5773 0718] Round About Moat [GT]. (1) Published survey (25") revised. The moat is water-filled, and has an average depth of 1.0m. There are no visible building foundations on the central platform. (2) The site was excavated in three areas in advance of electricity pylons being erected. The trench in the centre of the site produced little, but the two on the lip of the moat produced well preserved organic material and post-hole-like features. (3) SE 5772 0718. Roundabout moat, Arksey. Scheduled RSM no. 13217. (4) Part of the moat circuit and associated banks are visible as earthwork on air photographs. (5)
