Summary : Hammersmith station, the southern terminus of the present day Hammersmith and City Line, was opened on 1st December 1868 by the Metropolitan Railway as the second terminus on the line. The first station (see TQ 27 NW 151) opened a short distance to the north in 1864 but was demolished in 1868 to make way for the London and South West Railways line from Kensington to Richmond.
