Summary : The mound known as Butt Hill or Robin Hoods's Butt is likley to be a natural feature but was tentatively included in a list of mottes by a Victorian antiquarian, who himself noted the element of doubt in this interpretation.
More information : Site derived from OS 1st edition map (1) In his list of mottes published in 1889, GT Clark noted a Mound at Clapham known as Robin Hood's Butt. He indicated that he was uncertain as to the interpretation of the mound as a motte or moated site commenting that "its character is doubtful".
