Summary : A Second World War circular Type 25 pillbox, about 2 metres in diameter, situated near Lodge Hill Lane to the north of the northern perimeter of Lodge Hill Ordnance Depot (Monument 1077634). The pillbox, built of reinforced concrete with corrugated iron shuttering, overlooks Cooling and Cliffe Marshes from the north facing slopes of Rough Shaw, and was protected by a barbed wire enclosure on the down hill side. This structure formed part of the in depth defences associated with the Hoo Stop Line (Monument 1542577, Monument 1542687). It was constructed very close to one of the outer banks of a First World War fieldwork or redoubt (Monument 1546098) associated with military training activity centred on Chattenden Barracks (Monument 1545088). The pillbox has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project, and appeared as a standing structure on photographs taken in June 2011.
More information : Circular pillbox, about 2 metres in diameter, concrete with corrugated iron shuttering. Type 25 circular pillbox, with corrugated iron shuttering in place. Internally, 6ft in diameter with a low entrance and 3 rifle embrasures. Walls 12ins thick. With shutters on embrasures. Off Lodge Hill Lane. (1)

TQ 75535 73896. The Second World War circular Type 25 pillbox described in authority 1 has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. It is situated near Lodge Hill Lane to the north of the perimeter of Lodge Hill Ordnance Depot (Monument 1077634). The pillbox overlooks Cooling and Cliffe Marshes from the north facing slopes of Rough Shaw, and was protected by a barbed wire enclosure placed between 42m and 50m away from the pillbox on the down hill side. This structure formed part of the in depth defences associated with the Hoo Stop Line (Monument 1542577, Monument 1542687). It was constructed very close to one of the outer banks of a First World War fieldwork or redoubt (Monument 1546098) associated with military training activity centred on Chattenden Barracks (Monument 1545088). The pillbox appeared as a standing structure on photographs taken in June 2011. (2-4)
