Summary : Late 15th century parish church, restored 1879 to 81. Squared millstone grit, lead roof to side aisles, slate roof to nave and chancel, stone slate roof to hearse house. Two-bay chancel, four-bay nave, north and south aisles with side chapels. South porch, north hearse house, west tower. According to Knowles and Hadcock, the Church of St James was granted to West Dereham Abbey before 1189, was served by canons from West Dereham, and became a Premonstratensian quasi-cell. It is probable that `St James' was the earlier dedication of this church.
