More information : [SE 73665804] Tumulus [L.B.] (1)
A flat-topped mound, 3-4m. high, partly enclosed (on the S.E.) by a ditch 1.0m. deep. The mound is not a barrow, but is probably a small motte. On the west, it is protected by a steep natural scarp falling in the river, and on the north by a steep natural gully. There is no trace of a bailey. Resurveyed at 1/2500. (2)
Condition unchanged. (3)
The mound described above is visible on 1978 photography. Its diameter is approximately 20 metres. Later photography shows the area to be wooded. (4) |
