Summary : Euston Square station opened as Gower Street station on the 10th January 1863. It was one of the five intermediate stations on the Metropolitan Railway's line from Bishop's Road, Paddington to Farringdon Street. The station comprised two side platforms in a single tunnel with two running lines. Small station buildings - one for each platform - were provided with separate entances and exits with a booking office between. From these buildings stairs descended through archways to the platforms. Basement rooms were given over to parcel offices, stores and lavatories. Today, as well as serving the Metropolitan line, it also serves the Hammersmith and City, and Circle lines. |
