(2-3) Part of the "Winterbourne Stoke Group" comprising seven bowl barrows, two saucer barrows and an additional site, all under permanent pasture. Re-surveyed at 1:2500. (4)
The earthwork remains of the barrow cemetery described by the previous authorities were seen centred at SU 099 417 and mapped at 1:10,000 scale as part of the RCHME: Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP project. This was subsequently revised at 1:2500 scale for the English Heritage Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. Seven barrows from the group lie within SU04 SE. These were located as follows:
SU 0999 4187, SMR No. 672, saucer barrow 24m in diameter SU 0999 4184, SMR No. 670 a bowl barrow 19m in diameter SU 0996 4182, SMR No. 673 a bowl barrow 18m in diameter SU 0996 4184, SMR No. 671 a bowl barrow 14m in diameter SU 0994 4185, SMR No. 674 bowl barrow c.12m 1n diameter SU 0996 4187, SMR No. 676 saucer barrow 30m in diameter SU 0998 4161, SMR No. 668 a bowl barrow 32m diameter (5)
The barrow group was surveyed at a scale of 1:1000 in August 2009 and January 2010 as part of English Heritage's Stonehenge WHS Landscape Project. Please consult the individual round barrow records for further information. (6)
