More information : SE 086496. Addingham. A stone in the churchyard some 28m south-east of the south-east corner of the church, apparently a socket stone for a preaching or other cross, is noted by Mrs M F Pickles. Examination of the supposed cross-base showed that it was set 0.61m into the ground. Pottery found near the base was of nineteenth-century date; it is therefore assumed that the stone has been put in its present position comparatively recently. A stone 1.16m by 0.95m by 0.15m with some signs of rough dressing was recently removed from a position some 2.8m to the east of the cross-base. (1)(2) |
