Grid Ref : TM1350051200
Summary : Roman road, uncertain terminii, running from near Baylham to beyond Little Gleham, but good evidence and confirmatory excavation evidence along its length.
More information : A road of some uncertainty at both ends, but with good straight stretches of modern road and confirmatory excavtion in its middle lengths, and a largish settlement astride it at Lower Hacheston [see Associated Monument Records]. Like other East Anglian roads it seems to have been making (eastward) for the unlocated but clearly important centre of Sitomagus in the Yoxford/Dunwich area. [See OS Linear Archive for bibliography to 1975, 1940's air photo coverage, and field investigations 1973 and 1979]. (1)
