Civil Bombing Decoy C6e

Hob Uid: 1468260
Location :
Knowsley
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : SJ4610086600
Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy site at Halewood. It was built as part of the 'C-series' of civil decoys for Liverpool to deflect enemy bombing from Speke. The site functioned as both a 'QF' and 'QL' decoy. The 'QF' decoy consisted of a series of controlled fires lit during an air raid to replicate a target struck by bombs. The 'QL' decoy displayed lighting to simulate the railway marshalling yard at Speke. The site is referenced as being operational between 1941 and 1943. Aerial photography shows that by 1987 the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. Halewood was one of fourteen civil bombing decoy sites for Liverpool.
