Summary : Medieval moated motte surviving as an earthwork with originally two baileys no longer extant. The castle mound, built in the late 11th century, is circa 46m in diameter across the base, 34m in diameter on top, and stands 3.2m high. It is surrounded by a ditch between 12 and 16m wide, the eastern half filled with water. A smaller circular mound was built on top of the castle mound at a later date, and is 18m in diameter across the base, 10m in diameter across the flat top, and stands 1.8m high. It too was surrounded by a ditch, and may have served as the base for a watch-tower. The mound may have served as a prospect mound of the neighbouring house in the post-Mediaeval period. Scheduled.
