More information : A ring ditch located south-southeast of the Mount Pleasant henge enclosure, one of several recorded for the first time during analysis of aerial photographs in 2004-5. Following the simple nomenclature used in the RCHME inventory and existing monument records, the barrow is designated 'G'.
Located at SY 71208973, it measures circa 15.5 metres in maximum internal diameter. It forms part of a group of three ring ditches, all of a similar size, forming a broadly linear arrangement to the SSE of the henge. 'G' is the northernmost of the three, and just 3.5 metres separates its ring ditch from the northern edge of the ditch of 'H'. This cluster of three ring ditches lies circa 100 metres southwest of barrows 'E' and 'F' (SY 78 NW 96 and 97) and 175 metres west of 'D', the nearest of the most easterly group (SY 78 NW 14, 93, 94 and 95). The area between these groups regularly produces 'natural' cropmarks, making it impossible to be certain that this area is genuinely devoid of archaeological features. (1, 2) |
