Summary : A Late C1st Legionary tombstone of a standard bearer of the XXth legion was found in 1933 on an allotment south of Chester.
More information : Inscribed late 1st. c. slate sepulchral slab
commemorating a standard-bearer of the XXth Legion, found in
1933 on an allotment a little more than a mile S. of Chester
and 1/2 mile N. of the Roman site at Heronbridge [SJ 46 S.W.1]

It had apparently been used to repair a hole in a minor road
leading eastwards from Watling Street, at a distance of
58 yds. from the modern Eaton Road. [See photo: F/54/152/2] (1)

[SJ 40966473] Exact find spot not ascertained. Sited to the
allotments on the east side of the road opposite the first
mile post from Chester. This field is the most southerly
containing allotments and the southern part conforms with the
topographical description given in Authy. 1.
The inscribed slate is not in the Grosvenor Museum and its
present location was not discovered. (2)

"This inscription has been lost, we have no knowledge of the
present whereabouts" (3)
