Summary : Possible site of a fortified manor house of the early 14th century.
More information : (SJ 68810624) Dawley Castle (NR) (Site of) (NAT) Castle Pool (NR) (1) A patent dated at York on Nov 17 1316 permits William ale Mouton to fortify his mansion "of Dalileye" with a stone wall and to embattle the same. (2) There are no extant remains of Dawley Castle. The earthworks to the north of the published site are a result of modern tipping of waste materials from factories. There is no evidence to connect Castle Pool (SJ 68840615) with Dawley Castle except for its proximity. (3) Listed by Cathcart King. (4)
