The Darnhall Abbey was founded in 1274 and later moved to Vale Royal [SJ 66 N.W.3] (2)
Darnhall Hall has been demolished and the site is now overgrown. No trace of the Abbey was found. (3)
Darnhall was one of the manor houses of the Earls of Chester, and on the death of the last Earl in 1327, the estates passed to the King. Prince Edward was granted the estate in 1254, and gave the house and land to the Cistercians in 1270 to found a new abbey. The abbey was built in 1270, but moved to Vale Royal. (4,5) |
