Summary : West Finchley station was opened by the London and North Eastern Railway on 1st March 1933 to serve the new suburban housing developments in the area. It became an Underground station when services on the the North Line extension to High Barnet commenced on 14 April 1940. The original timber building was replaced in 1988 with a new building constructed from brick with a metal roof. Its latticed footbridge and timber waiting rooms were salvaged from other station on the LNER network, primarily in the north, due to a shortage of funds.
