More information : "Castello de Trentham" occurs in the Pipe Roll of 1168. (1)

Burne suggests that the site of the Trentham Castle mentioned
in the Pipe Rolls is shown by the name "Castle Field" which
appears on an estate map of 1714, in the possession of "Mr
Menzies". It was the name given to a large open arable field
now sub-divided and enclosed. "The map shows that this field
stretched NE from the river in the direction of the Institute
(SJ 86734115) and beyond it." (2)
