Summary : The alleged site of a possible motte at 'Castle Field' near the Congleton Road, Macclesfield. No traces of a mound were visible during field investigation in 1962 and the area was under development.
More information : Near the Congleton road, Macclesfield, is a place called "the Castle Field" which was probably the site of the local palace of the earls of Chester. In this a circular mount, or tumulus is still remaining. [Most likely refers to the area around Park Mount SJ 9072. Castle Field is not shown on the Tithe map and Appt. 1848.] (1) No traces of a mound was found in the vicinity of Park Mount. The area is under development. (2)
