Church. C12 nave, late C13 chancel, C14 and C15 aisles, C15 west
tower, C19 porches. Ashlar with slate roofs. West tower, 4-bay
aisled nave and north and south porches, 5-bay chancel. West
tower: moulded plinth, diagonal buttresses with offsets. 2-light
pointed belfry openings with cusped tracery under stopped
hood-moulds. Embattled parapet, crocketed corner pinnacles. West
door under 4-centred head with continuous mouldings and stopped
hood-mould. West windows: pointed, of 3 lights, with
Perpendicular tracery under hood-mould with beast stops. Nave:
chamfered plinth, buttresses with offsets. 3-light window with
ogee tracery in square-headed chamfered surrounds. Clerestory has
3-light windows with Perpendicular tracery under 4-centre
heads. South door: pointed, double chamfered, with hood-mould.
Hollow-chamfered string-course below eaves, raised coped gable
with cross finial. Chancels: high chamfered plinth, buttresses
with offsets. 2-light pointed window with Geometrical tracery to
west, C19 lancet with cusped tracery and stopped hood-mould to
east. Coped gable with cross finial. Pointed east window with
intersecting tracery, enclosing sexfoil at apex, under stopped
hood-mould. Interior: C14 south arcade of pointed
double-chamfered arches dying into lozenge-section piers. C15
north arcade: octagonal piers on raised bases with moulded
capitals carrying pointed double-chamfered arches. Nave roof:
probably C17. Kerb-rafter roof with tie-beams with struts and
slender arch-braces, double side-purlins, queen posts with
pendants, raking struts, and collars, and each truss filled with
ornate, fretted, cusped and ogee tracery. Chancel arch with
attached shafts: C12 scalloped capital with volutes to left. C12
cushion-capital with cable and leaf ornament to right. Rebuilt
4-centred arch of 2 square orders, the inner enriched with ball
ornament to the nave. Squint to south of chancel arch with
chamfered pointed opening to chancel, lintel shouldered on ogee
curves to nave. C12 tub font with lozenge ornament rising to
loops surmounted by a cable moulding at the rim. Effigy of child
in north aisle wall, recumbent effigies of couple, partly
entwined in tracery, in north aisle east end. Tomb recess with
hood-mould partly concealed in south aisle wall. East window
signed by Wailes, 1854. C19 box pews throughout. (2)
