Summary : Hatch End station opened in 1842 as Pinner Station on the London and Birmingham Railway. The present station was built in 1911 by Gerald Horsley for the London and North Western Railway. Built in contrasting brick and stone, it has a Romanesque arched door and window framed by broad rusticated quoins and a delicately part-dentilled cornice beneath a near-pyramidal roof, topped by a stylish cupola with inset clock and weather vane. A broad vertical stone band dividing the arches contains a lavish arrangement of festooned fruit and foilage ('swag'), the date and the railway's initials. Underground services arrived here on 16th April 1917 when the Bakerloo extended the line from Willesden Junction to Watford Junction. The station closed to Underground traffic when London Transport closed the Stonebridge Park to Watford Junction section of the Bakerloo Line on 24th September 1982. |
