Summary : Hospital constructed circa 1115 after the Chapel of St Mary Magdalene had been granted to Bardney by Gilbert of Ghent. This grant was confirmed in 1115 by his son. In 1318 it became a small cell to which resigned abbots of Bardney Abbey occassionally retired. Dissolved in 1538. |
More information : The Hospital of St. Mary Magdalene, Partney, was built shortly after 1115 and dissolved before 1318. It is uncertain whether it was for the sick or for the aged poor. By the 14th century it had ceased to be a hospital, and became a cell to Bardney Abbey. [The Grange: TF 4090 6851; and Monks Lane TF 4075 6845]. (1-2) No further information. (3)
