More information : [TA 13123583] Giant Hill TUMULUS [GT] (1) Dated to 14th c by W.F Varley (2) A large flat-topped ditchless mound 3.6m high, with an earthen ramp forming an integral part of its E. side. Its proportions suggest a windmill or dovecote mount. Resurvey at 1/2500. (3)
TA 1312 3583. Giant Hill is 3.5m high, 60m long and 32m wide. Excavations in 1919 and 1960 proved that it was constructed between 1350 and 1450. Its exact function remains uncertain, though it may be a lookout for a deer park which is known to have lain to the S of Swine nunnery (TA 13 NW 1), within whose precinct Giant Hill lies.
