I The Observatory, on Ratcheugh Crag

Built by Robert Adam as a romantic Gothic ruin, visible from Alnwick
Castle, on top of a sheer sandstone cliff. Long castellated wall
width loop lights, a 2-storeyed round tower at south end containing
a cottage, turrets, and a square tower at north end having an open
arched ground floor, and an observatory room above with 3 round-
arched Gothic traceried windows on east and west sides.
Asymmetrical composition, very effective "folly". (2)
